My Story

Small town farm girl

My name is Trudy Black been a driver for over 25 years with around 2 million accident free miles. It started out when I was about 10 years old my Dad brought an old freightliner cabover home. I was stuck in the driver seat to steer it around the field while it was being loaded with hay.

As life happens at 28, I went over the road hauling refrigerated freight across the country which was pretty exciting for a farm girl from the Oregon coast.

I came back about two years later and started pulling tanks, hot oil loved it as it was hugely challenging but it was seasonal. I bounced back and forth over the road to oil tanks for a few years.

Towards the end of the season in 2004 I was asked to fill in for a regional spot in Indianapolis for short time. I spent 5 years there about 85% was in the NE corner of the country.

I moved to North Dakota after that, living in Grand Forks. I was running regional to Winnipeg almost daily crossing the border and dealing with weather I’d never experienced in my life. I found it quite terrifying at times to be completely honest.

Then in 2013, I came back west again the company I worked for hauling oil years before had a position for me that wasn’t seasonal so I’ve been hauling jet fuel and avgas pretty much since.  Not only is it a challenge but being on the west coast we get to chain up periodically.  We haul 8 axle truck and pups and 40’-20’ west coast doubles.

They say once you’ve got diesel in your veins the steering wheel can’t be pried from your fingers.
